The adoption of the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities by the United Nations General Assembly on 13 December 2006 was a landmark decision for the worldwide disability movement.

From 2007, Inclusion Europe’s Working Group on Human Rights and Non-Discrimination discusses the UN CRPD ratification and implementation and how to support Inclusion Europe’s members in this process.

One important aspect emerged from the discussion: many members of Inclusion Europe are facing similar problems in their respective countries, as far as knowledge about the contents of the Convention and the formal steps towards its ratification and implementation are concerned.  Therefore the Working Group took the initiative to create this Legal Network News page, which offers elements for discussion and exchange among members of Inclusion Europe about similar questions and problems in relation to the CRPD implementation. The Working Group hopes that it will be a useful tool and welcomes any remarks or information sharing.
